Disease description:

I've fractured my clavicle, and it's very painful here now. I'm also reluctant to move my arm. The doctor provided appropriate treatment, but I'm still very concerned. I'd like to know how long it will take for a clavicle fracture like mine to recover to the point of normal activity as before?

The recovery time for a clavicle fracture usually ranges from 2 to 3 months, but varies depending on individual circumstances.

1. Mild clavicle fractures: If the fracture site only presents symptoms such as swelling and pain, and the fracture ends are not displaced or separated, conservative treatment methods are generally adopted, such as immobilization with a bandage, traction reduction, or use of a sling. Under such circumstances, the fracture site may essentially heal within 1 to 2 months, after which the patient can gradually return to normal work and daily activities.

2. Severe clavicle fractures: For example, comminuted fractures or cases in which displacement or separation of the fracture site occurs, especially in patients with poor overall health, the recovery period will naturally be prolonged. These types of fractures often require surgical treatment, such as open reduction with plate fixation or intramedullary fixation. After surgery, patients must rest adequately and undergo rehabilitation therapy. Generally, the fracture site achieves bony union approximately 3 months after surgery.
