How high is CA724 for a tumor?

Disease description:

Recently, during a medical check-up, I found that my CA724 level was slightly elevated, which has made me quite worried. I don't have any particularly obvious symptoms in my daily life, except for occasional fatigue. I would like to know how high the CA724 level needs to be before it is very likely to indicate a tumor.

CA724, also known as carbohydrate antigen 72-4, is a common hematologic tumor marker, with a normal reference range generally between 0-6 U/ml.

However, an elevated CA724 level does not definitively indicate the presence of a tumor.

Clinically, increased CA724 levels can be observed in various conditions, including malignant tumors such as gastric cancer, colorectal cancer, pancreatic cancer, and ovarian cancer, as well as benign diseases such as gastritis, endometritis, and pelvic inflammatory disease. Moreover, nonspecific factors such as inflammation and infection can also cause mild elevations in CA724. Therefore, an elevated CA724 level alone cannot be used to diagnose cancer.

The appropriate approach is to interpret CA724 levels in conjunction with the patient's clinical symptoms, physical signs, and other relevant test results, such as imaging studies including CT, ultrasound, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). If a tumor is suspected, further pathological examination is required to confirm the diagnosis.

Thus, an elevated CA724 level merely suggests the possibility of an abnormality or disease condition and cannot serve as a definitive basis for diagnosing cancer; further investigations are necessary.
