Disease description:

I have been feeling nauseous while eating for the past two days, and my stomach has been uncomfortable. After visiting the hospital, I was diagnosed with cholecystitis. Besides taking medication, I was advised to pay attention to my diet. May I ask what foods are generally not recommended for people with cholecystitis?

Foods that patients with cholecystitis should avoid or limit:

1. High-fat foods: such as fried foods, fast food, fatty meats, and full-fat dairy products. High-fat foods stimulate gallbladder contraction and increase bile secretion, which may cause biliary colic.

2. Spicy foods: including chili peppers, pepper, ginger, garlic, and other spicy or pungent foods. These irritating foods can stimulate the gastrointestinal tract, promote gallbladder contraction and bile discharge, possibly worsening symptoms of cholecystitis or triggering an inflammatory attack.

3. Acidic foods: citrus fruits, tomatoes, and tomato-based products. These foods may irritate the gallbladder and stomach, causing discomfort.

4. Coffee and caffeinated beverages: caffeine is a strong gallbladder contracting agent and may cause gallbladder pain.

5. Alcohol: alcohol not only irritates the gallbladder but also affects liver function, which is detrimental to patients with cholecystitis.

6. High-sugar foods and refined carbohydrates: such as candy, cakes, and white bread. These foods cause rapid increases in blood glucose levels, which may indirectly affect gallbladder health.

If symptoms are severe or do not improve, prompt medical attention is recommended.
