Ganglion cyst is a common soft tissue tumor that mainly occurs in the tendon sheath near joints or tendons, particularly frequently found in the wrist and ankle areas. It is essentially a cystic structure formed by the accumulation of synovial fluid within the tendon sheath. Most cases are benign, but they may cause local pain, compress nerves, or affect joint movement.

Common treatment methods:

1. Observation: For asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic ganglion cysts, a strategy of watchful waiting can be adopted, with regular follow-up examinations to avoid excessive intervention. Some ganglion cysts may resolve spontaneously.

2. Compression or tapping technique: This is suitable for cysts with thin walls. Manual compression or gentle tapping with a small hammer may cause the cyst wall to rupture, allowing the viscous fluid inside to drain out, resulting in disappearance of the cyst.

3. Aspiration therapy: Using a syringe to aspirate the viscous fluid from the cyst, followed by injection of hydrocortisone acetate for sealing, and then applying compression dressing.

4. Surgical excision: For recurrent ganglion cysts or those that recur after aspiration, surgical removal is the most definitive treatment. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, involving complete removal of the cyst and its base through a small incision to prevent recurrence due to residual tissue.
