Dr. Shen Yonghua

Gastritis patients can generally take levofloxacin as directed by a physician. Levofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic belonging to the quinolone class of drugs. It has strong antibacterial properties and can effectively combat various bacteria, including those causing gastroenteritis. However, the following points should be noted:

1. Indications: Levofloxacin is suitable for bacterial-induced acute gastroenteritis, especially traveler's diarrhea or suspected severe bacterial enteritis. Using antibiotics for viral or non-infectious gastroenteritis is inappropriate, as it will not be effective and may lead to intestinal flora imbalance, worsening the condition.

2. Medication Guidance: When using levofloxacin, follow the doctor's advice to avoid misuse of antibiotics and ensure appropriate medication. Also, be aware of potential adverse reactions and contraindications.

3. Precautions: Adolescents under 18 years of age should avoid using levofloxacin as much as possible to prevent potential effects on growth and development. Additionally, levofloxacin should be taken after meals to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
