What causes green bowel movements?
Today when I went to the bathroom, I noticed that all the stool was green, but I didn't experience any discomfort. I would like to know what might be causing this situation?
Common causes that may lead to green stool:
1. Dietary factors: The color of food can affect the color of stool. For example, consuming large amounts of green vegetables or foods and beverages containing green pigments may cause the stool to appear green.
2. Medication factors: Taking medications such as Potassium Bismuth Citrate Capsules or Indomethacin Tablets, whose components may combine with digestive fluids to form green substances, resulting in a change in stool color. After discontinuation of the medication, stool color usually returns to normal.
3. Indigestion: During indigestion, bilirubin in bile may oxidize within the stool, potentially turning it green. Improving dietary habits, avoiding oily, spicy, and other irritating foods, and appropriately taking prokinetic agents, such as Domperidone Tablets or Mosapride Citrate Tablets, may help alleviate symptoms.
4. Gastroenteritis: Intestinal diseases such as gastroenteritis may cause abnormal bile metabolism, leading to green-colored stool. At the same time, patients may experience accompanying symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. In such cases, timely medical consultation is necessary for targeted treatment.
