What causes kidney pain?
My father has recently been experiencing discomfort and pain during urination, as well as pain in the kidney area. I would like to know what causes kidney pain?

Kidney pain, also known as renal or flank pain, may be caused by various factors:
1. Urinary tract infections: Including pyelonephritis, cystitis, etc., caused by bacterial infections. Symptoms often include frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination.
2. Kidney stones: Crystals accumulating in the kidneys form stones, which can cause severe pain, especially when the stones move. The pain may radiate to the lower abdomen or inner thighs.
3. Kidney cysts: Fluid-filled cysts develop within the kidneys. Most often asymptomatic, but when cysts enlarge and compress surrounding tissues, pain may occur.
4. Infections: Bacterial infection is one of the primary causes of kidney pain, especially pathogenic bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria can reach the kidneys through the bloodstream, for example, from upper respiratory tract infections or infections of nearby tissues.
5. Other factors: Prolonged urine retention, unregulated diet, and frequent consumption of acidic or caffeinated beverages may all damage the kidneys and consequently cause kidney pain.
If symptoms worsen or persist, prompt medical attention should be sought.
