What is periostitis?
Thigh pain; during an orthopedic examination, periostitis was discovered. What kind of disease is this?

Periostitis is a common bone disease that occurs as a result of stress injuries or invasion by pyogenic bacteria. Stress injuries can lead to stress-induced periosteal damage, causing abnormalities in the periosteum and surrounding blood vessels; pyogenic bacterial invasion can cause infectious periosteal damage, triggering an inflammatory response.
Symptoms of periostitis are divided into systemic and local symptoms.
1. Systemic symptoms: Patients may experience generalized body pain, accompanied by chills, and may feel restless and agitated.
2. Local symptoms: These are primarily concentrated at the affected site, where swelling and noticeable local congestion occur, accompanied by pain and movement impairment, significantly affecting the patient's daily activities.
Medication treatment can relieve symptoms through the use of anti-inflammatory drugs and analgesics; physical therapies such as heat application and massage can promote blood circulation and reduce inflammation; severe cases of periostitis may require surgical treatment. The specific treatment plan should be formulated according to the patient's actual condition.
The key to preventing periostitis lies in maintaining appropriate physical exercise, avoiding overuse of specific body parts, and maintaining good personal hygiene to reduce the risk of infection.
