During lactation, women can wear makeup, but they should choose safe and non-toxic products, as chemical ingredients in cosmetics may be absorbed through the skin and, in theory, a very small amount might enter breast milk. To ensure the health and safety of both mother and baby, the following principles should be followed when wearing makeup during breastfeeding:

1. Skin testing: Some women may be allergic to certain cosmetics; therefore, it is recommended to perform a skin test before using any new cosmetic product.

2. Choose safe products: Products labeled as "safe for pregnant women," "non-toxic," or "natural and organic" are recommended. Avoid cosmetics containing harmful chemicals such as heavy metals and artificial pigments. Extra attention should be paid to the selection of lipsticks, as babies may come into direct contact with the mother's lips during feeding; therefore, food-grade or lipsticks specifically designed for pregnant and breastfeeding women should be selected.

3. Opt for light makeup: Wear light makeup whenever possible, reduce the duration that cosmetics remain on the skin, and avoid wearing heavy makeup for extended periods.

4. Complete removal of makeup: Before contacting the baby, thoroughly clean the face and hands to avoid the risk of the child ingesting or coming into contact with residual cosmetics.
