Symptoms of Premature Beats
I have recently been feeling palpitations, and sometimes I experience dizziness or fainting. Could this be premature beats? What are the symptoms of premature beats?
Premature beats, medically referred to as premature contractions, are one or more extra heartbeats that occur unexpectedly outside the normal cardiac cycle. The main symptoms include:
1. Chest tightness: The altered cardiac rhythm during premature beats may lead to insufficient blood supply to the heart, resulting in a feeling of chest tightness.
2. Fatigue: Premature beats may reduce cardiac blood flow, leading to inadequate oxygen supply and causing fatigue.
3. Palpitations: When premature beats occur, the ventricles are not completely filled with blood or pressure, resulting in an awareness of abnormal heartbeat, which may feel like a sudden acceleration or irregular rhythm.
4. Anxiety or uneasiness: Persistent premature beats may cause psychological discomfort in patients, leading to feelings of anxiety or restlessness.
5. Syncope or dizziness: Severe premature beats may temporarily reduce blood supply, causing syncope or dizziness.
Premature beats do not necessarily indicate serious heart disease; however, frequent or persistent premature beats may require further investigation and treatment, especially in patients with a history of underlying heart disease.
