What causes intermittent pain in the lower left abdomen?
I suddenly felt a dull pain in the lower left abdomen while taking a walk in the evening. This has never happened before. I would like to ask the doctor what could be causing this?

Left lower abdominal cramps may be caused by various factors, including but not limited to digestive system problems such as indigestion. When gastrointestinal motility is impaired or when the digestive tract fails to produce sufficient digestive secretions, indigestion may occur, which can cause abdominal pain. Urinary system issues such as ureteral stones or cystitis, for example kidney stones or urinary tract infections, can also be responsible. For women, gynecological conditions such as ovarian cysts or pelvic inflammatory disease should also be considered. Additionally, although appendicitis typically presents with right lower quadrant pain, in some cases it may present with pain on the left side.
Therefore, abdominal pain has multiple possible causes. When experiencing left lower abdominal cramps, timely medical consultation is necessary. A clear diagnosis should be established through detailed medical history taking, physical examination, and necessary imaging studies such as ultrasound or CT scan, in order to identify the underlying cause and enable targeted treatment. Prior to determining the exact cause, patients should avoid self-administering painkillers, as this may mask the true condition. Self-diagnosis and delayed medical care may lead to worsening of the condition.
