What causes the right eye to twitch?
My right eye keeps twitching; could it be a symptom of something? What causes right eye twitching?

Eye twitching, also known as eyelid spasm, is primarily caused by involuntary contractions of the eyelid muscles. The main inducing factors include the following aspects:
1. Physiological causes: excessive stress, nervous tension, and overfatigue. If a patient lacks sufficient sleep, twitching of the right eyelid may occur, which belongs to protective eyelid spasms. In addition, excessive smoking or alcohol consumption, strong light stimulation, and intake of stimulatory foods or medications may also lead to right eye twitching.
2. Nervous system diseases: when a tumor compresses or irritates the facial nerve, it may also cause contractions of the orbicularis oculi muscle, manifesting as right eye twitching. This type of twitching usually involves larger movements and lasts longer.
3. Eye diseases: conditions such as blepharitis, trichiasis, conjunctivitis, and keratitis may stimulate nerve endings, leading to eyelid spasms and resulting in symptoms of right eye twitching.
If eyelid spasms persist for a long duration, occur frequently, or are accompanied by symptoms such as blurred vision, headache, or facial muscle twitching, they may indicate an early sign of more serious conditions such as facial muscle spasms, and timely medical attention should be sought.
