Patients with atrophic gastritis should drink cautiously water infused with orange peel.

Orange peel contains abundant vitamin C and flavonoid compounds, which have certain antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects and theoretically offer some protection to the gastric mucosa. However, certain components in orange peel, such as limonene, may have strong volatility and irritancy, which could cause discomfort or even worsen the condition for patients with atrophic gastritis whose gastric mucosa is already damaged. Water infused with orange peel has functions of invigorating the spleen and stomach, resolving phlegm, relieving cough, moistening the lungs, and alleviating asthma, but it also has certain irritant properties that may increase gastric acid secretion.

Acidic substances in orange peel may affect the pH level in the stomach, thereby further affecting gastric function. In addition, residual pesticides or mold on the surface of orange peel may also affect health. For patients with atrophic gastritis, it is advisable to choose easily digestible, nutrient-rich foods and avoid spicy, raw, cold, or otherwise highly irritating foods to prevent aggravation of the condition.

It is recommended to consult a physician and, based on individual constitution and medical condition, try small amounts cautiously while closely observing the body's response. If any discomfort occurs, usage should be stopped immediately and medical advice sought.
