What Causes Frequent Flatulence?
I've noticed that I often pass gas. When I'm alone, it's not a big deal, but passing gas in public is really embarrassing. I would like to understand, what are the common causes of frequent flatulence?
When the frequency of flatulence significantly increases, it may be related to the following situations:
1. Dietary factors: Consuming large amounts of high-fiber foods, legumes, lactose-containing foods in individuals with lactose intolerance, or foods containing artificial sweeteners can increase gas production in the intestines, leading to more frequent flatulence.
2. Swallowing excessive air: Behaviors such as eating too quickly, chewing gum, or drinking beverages through a straw can cause large amounts of air to enter the digestive tract, increasing the frequency of flatulence.
3. Imbalance of intestinal flora: Disruption of the gut microbial ecosystem, such as a reduction in beneficial bacteria and an increase in harmful bacteria, may affect the normal fermentation process of food, resulting in increased gas production.
4. Gastrointestinal diseases: Conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) can all affect intestinal function and lead to increased flatulence.
5. Psychological factors: Emotional states such as stress and anxiety may also indirectly increase flatulence by affecting intestinal motility.
If flatulence is accompanied by discomfort or a significant increase in gas volume, it is advisable to seek medical attention promptly. At the same time, maintaining healthy dietary habits and lifestyle practices is important.
