Treatment Methods for Constipation
This period might be due to eating something spicy, which could have caused some constipation. It has already been two days without a bowel movement. I would like to ask how this condition should be treated.
Below are several common and effective methods for treating constipation:
1. Lifestyle adjustments: Maintain a regular daily routine, eat meals at regular times and in appropriate quantities, avoid prolonged sitting, and increase daily physical activity, such as aerobic exercises like walking or jogging, which can help stimulate intestinal motility and improve constipation.
2. Dietary habits: Increase intake of dietary fiber, such as whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. Fiber absorbs water, softens stools, and promotes intestinal motility. At the same time, ensure adequate fluid intake; adults are advised to drink 1.5–2 liters of water daily to help fiber function effectively. Reduce consumption of high-fat and high-sugar foods, and avoid spicy or fried foods, which may worsen constipation.
3. Medication: When lifestyle and dietary adjustments are ineffective, medication may be considered. Commonly used medications include osmotic laxatives, bulk-forming laxatives, and stimulant laxatives. Medication should be used under a doctor's guidance to avoid long-term dependence or improper use that may lead to side effects.
If constipation persists despite these measures, prompt medical consultation is recommended.
