Disease description:

I have been experiencing persistent pain around my navel recently. The pain is a dull ache, sometimes accompanied by a sensation of needing to use the restroom, and at other times it feels like a sharp, stabbing pain. The pain becomes more noticeable upon pressing the area. Therefore, what are the possible causes of periumbilical pain?

Below are some common causes of periumbilical pain:

1. Gastrointestinal issues: Such as indigestion, gastric ulcers, cholecystitis, and enteritis. These conditions may cause pain around the navel. Enteritis often accompanies symptoms like diarrhea and indigestion and is frequently triggered by abdominal cooling or consumption of cold, irritating foods.

2. Appendicitis: Some patients with appendicitis may initially experience pain around the navel, which later shifts to the lower right abdomen.

3. Urinary system diseases: For example, kidney stones. When stones move from the kidneys toward the bladder, pain around the navel may occur.

4. Inguinal hernia: When abdominal fat, internal organs, or other tissues protrude through a weak area in the inguinal region, an inguinal hernia can develop, causing pain around the navel or in the groin area, often accompanied by bloating, nausea, and other symptoms.

5. Herpes zoster: Although less common, herpes zoster can also occur around the navel, causing pain and possibly accompanied by small rashes.

If the pain persists or is accompanied by other symptoms, prompt medical attention is advised.
