What are the causes of right abdominal pain?
Last night, just as I was about to fall asleep, I suddenly felt some pain in the right side of my abdomen. The pain gradually became more severe and completely unbearable. After taking painkillers, I fell asleep. I would like to ask the doctor, what could be the cause of such severe pain in the right side of the abdomen?

Here are some common causes that may lead to right abdominal pain:
1. Cholecystitis: Acute or chronic inflammation of the gallbladder may cause pain in the upper right abdomen, possibly accompanied by symptoms such as fever and jaundice.
2. Appendicitis: Pain typically starts around the navel and gradually shifts to the lower right abdomen, known as McBurney's point pain, which is a classic sign of appendicitis.
3. Gastrointestinal diseases: Functional intestinal spasms, inflammation, tumors, polyps, parasites, or bowel obstruction affecting the right half of the colon or small intestine may all cause right abdominal pain.
4. Urinary system diseases: Inflammation, stones, or tumors involving the right kidney, adrenal gland, or ureter may also lead to right abdominal pain.
5. Gynecological conditions: For female patients, inflammation or tumors of the right adnexa, as well as miscarriage or rupture of an ectopic pregnancy in the right fallopian tube, may also cause right abdominal pain.
6. Muscle strain or skeletal problems: Although less common, conditions such as rib fractures or muscle sprains can also be potential causes.
If the pain is severe, persistent, or accompanied by symptoms such as fever, vomiting, or blood in the stool, immediate medical attention is advised.
