What Causes Lower Abdominal Pain in Men?
I have been experiencing severe lower abdominal pain recently and would like to ask: what are the possible causes of lower abdominal pain in men?
Below are some common causes that may lead to lower abdominal pain in men:
1. Urinary system diseases: Conditions such as cystitis, bladder cancer, and urinary retention may cause pain in the lower abdomen. Cystitis, in particular, can lead to abdominal discomfort because the bladder is located in the lower abdominal area. When the bladder lining becomes infected with bacteria, inflammation occurs, causing lower abdominal pain, accompanied by symptoms such as urgency, painful urination, or even hematuria (blood in the urine).
2. Gastrointestinal diseases: Conditions such as intestinal spasms, colitis, and colon cancer may also cause lower abdominal pain in men. Unhealthy dietary habits or frequent alcohol consumption may trigger intestinal spasms or gastrointestinal infections, leading to acute gastroenteritis or colitis.
3. Prostate problems: Prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) are common conditions in men that may cause lower abdominal pain. Prostatitis may be accompanied by seminal vesiculitis, increasing the excitability of the sympathetic nervous system and causing referred pain in the lower abdomen. BPH is more commonly seen in middle-aged and elderly men and is characterized by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, and aching or pulling pain in the lower abdomen.
