Characteristics of Abdominal Pain in Ectopic Pregnancy
I saw online that ectopic pregnancy can cause abdominal pain. Could you please tell me what are the characteristics of abdominal pain in ectopic pregnancy?
Ectopic pregnancy refers to the implantation and development of a fertilized egg outside the uterine cavity, with tubal pregnancy being the most common type. Abdominal pain is one of the main symptoms of ectopic pregnancy, and its characteristics are as follows:
1. Nature of pain: The pain is often sudden in onset and typically presents as unilateral lower abdominal tearing or intermittent pain, progressively worsening from mild discomfort to severe, tearing-like pain.
2. Associated symptoms: Abdominal pain may be accompanied by symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, and some patients may also experience a sensation of rectal pressure.
3. Progressive pain: As the ectopic pregnancy progresses, the pain may gradually change from mild discomfort to severe, intolerable pain.
4. Physical signs: During abdominal examination, marked tenderness and rebound tenderness are present in the lower abdomen on the affected side, along with significant cervical motion tenderness, which are clinical signs suggestive of ectopic pregnancy.
5. Location of pain: The pain is usually located on one side of the lower abdomen and correlates with the implantation site of the gestational sac.
6. Disease progression: As the condition progresses, the pain may intensify and may be accompanied by heavy bleeding, potentially leading to shock.
