Can a miscarriage occur without bleeding or abdominal pain?
Recently, I saw someone online say that the fetus might suddenly stop developing. I would like to ask, is it possible for the fetus to stop developing without vaginal bleeding or abdominal pain?
It is possible for embryonic or fetal demise to occur without bleeding or abdominal pain.
Embryonic or fetal arrest refers to the phenomenon in which an embryo stops developing and dies during pregnancy. It may be caused by various factors, including the condition of the embryo itself, maternal factors, and environmental factors. In the early stages of embryonic or fetal arrest, pregnant women may not experience obvious symptoms such as bleeding or abdominal pain. Therefore, it is not reliable to judge the occurrence of embryonic or fetal arrest based solely on the presence or absence of bleeding or abdominal pain. Some women may not experience any significant symptoms at all, neither bleeding nor abdominal pain, a condition known as a missed miscarriage or asymptomatic embryonic or fetal arrest.
This is mainly because after the embryo stops developing, the body may require some time to recognize the loss and begin the natural process of miscarriage, or due to individual differences, some women may experience only mild physical reactions.
