Is laser treatment good for correcting myopia?
I am nearsighted and have heard that laser treatment can be used for correction. I would like to know whether laser treatment is a good option for nearsightedness.

Laser treatment for myopia refers to laser corneal refractive surgeries such as LASIK, LASEK, or SMILE. These procedures correct vision by reshaping the cornea. For eligible patients, laser treatment can be an effective treatment option. The advantages of laser treatment include:
1. Significant results—vision can be clearly improved by correcting refractive errors within the eye, substantially reducing or even eliminating myopia.
2. Painless procedure—local anesthesia is used during surgery, so patients feel no pain. The surgery is brief and straightforward, typically completed within a few minutes, with minimal postoperative discomfort. As a non-invasive treatment that does not involve incisions, it significantly reduces risks and discomfort associated with the procedure.
3. Rapid recovery—the recovery period after surgery is relatively short, with most people able to resume normal activities within a few days.
However, laser treatment is not suitable for everyone. Patients with eye diseases, thin corneas, or severe dry eye syndrome may not be appropriate candidates for the surgery. Potential complications include worsening dry eyes, reduced night vision, and light sensitivity.
Before deciding to undergo laser treatment, patients should undergo comprehensive eye examinations and have detailed discussions with qualified eye specialists to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the procedure.
