Gestational Diabetes Symptoms
My wife is pregnant, but she has diabetes. What symptoms might occur during pregnancy?

Gestational diabetes mellitus usually appears during the middle or late stages of pregnancy. Its main symptoms may not be obvious, but common ones include:
1. Increased thirst, increased appetite, and frequent urination: Pregnant women may frequently feel thirsty and drink more water; have an increased appetite and eat more food; and experience increased urine output, especially frequent nighttime urination.
2. Weight changes: Some pregnant women may notice abnormal weight gain or loss.
3. Mental status: Pregnant women may feel fatigued, listless, and even experience symptoms such as dizziness and headaches.
4. Skin problems: Due to increased water demand in the body, pregnant women may develop dry, itchy skin.
5. Vomiting: Persistent nausea and vomiting in later pregnancy that worsens over time could be a sign of gestational diabetes.
6. Fetal macrosomia: A high blood sugar environment may lead to excessive fetal growth, increasing the risk of difficult labor.
If you have gestational diabetes, timely blood glucose testing is important to avoid adverse effects on maternal and fetal health. It is also recommended to attend regular prenatal checkups during pregnancy, follow medical advice, maintain healthy lifestyle habits, eat a balanced diet, and engage in appropriate physical activity.
