Precautions Before Having an IUD Inserted
Recently planning to undergo intrauterine device (IUD) insertion surgery, may I ask, what are the precautions before getting an IUD?

1. Health Status Assessment: A comprehensive gynecological examination is required, including cervical smear and ultrasound, to rule out uterine abnormalities, pelvic inflammatory disease, cervicitis, and other conditions. Ensure there are no contraindications such as pregnancy, genital tract infections, or tumors.
2. Menstrual Cycle Selection: It is generally recommended to insert the IUD on the 5th to 7th day after the onset of menstruation, when the cervix is more relaxed, reducing the risk of infection.
3. Avoid Sexual Intercourse: Refrain from sexual activity for one week prior to IUD insertion to reduce the risk of infection. Additionally, avoid tub bathing for three days before the procedure.
4. Blood and Discharge Tests: Perform complete blood count and vaginal discharge tests to further confirm the absence of infection or other conditions that may contraindicate the procedure.
5. Psychological Preparation: Understand how the IUD works, its potential side effects and complications, such as irregular bleeding, pain, and expulsion. Communicate thoroughly with your doctor to ensure an informed decision.
6. Postoperative Care Instructions: Be aware of post-procedure care, including rest, avoiding heavy physical labor, regular follow-up visits, and how to recognize and manage potential symptoms.
