Pedal edema during pregnancy, medically termed gestational lower limb edema, is a common phenomenon during pregnancy. It primarily results from hormonal changes in the body and pressure from the enlarged uterus on the inferior vena cava, which hinders blood circulation and causes fluid accumulation in the interstitial spaces. Methods to alleviate this condition include:

1. Adequate rest: Pregnant women should avoid prolonged standing or sitting, as these may impede blood circulation. During rest, it is recommended to elevate the feet, which helps venous return and thus reduces edema.

2. Moderate exercise: Mild physical activities such as walking and prenatal yoga can strengthen muscles and promote lymphatic circulation. However, extended periods of standing or sitting should be avoided.

3. Balanced diet: Pregnant women should adjust their dietary habits to avoid excessive salt and sugar intake, which can increase fluid retention in the body. A low-salt, low-sugar, high-protein diet with increased consumption of vegetables and fruits is recommended.

4. Comfortable clothing: Choose loose-fitting clothes and comfortable flat shoes. Avoid wearing high heels to reduce pressure on the feet.

5. Appropriate massage and foot soaking: Gentle foot massage can improve blood circulation in the feet and help alleviate edema. Additionally, soaking feet in warm water before bedtime can also be an effective method; immersing the feet in warm water and gently massaging them can enhance blood flow.
