Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) cannot be cured completely.

PCOS is a common endocrine disorder characterized primarily by excessive production of androgens by the ovaries and ovulatory dysfunction. Currently, there is no definitive cure for PCOS; however, symptoms can be managed and complications prevented through comprehensive treatment. The exact cause of PCOS remains unclear, but it is likely the result of interactions between genetic and environmental factors. This means that curing PCOS may be challenging, as genetic factors cannot currently be modified.

The treatment goals for PCOS include regulating menstrual cycles, promoting ovulation, improving insulin resistance, reducing body weight, and addressing psychosocial issues. Lifestyle modifications, such as healthy eating and regular physical activity, form the foundation of treatment. Improving diet, controlling weight, and engaging in aerobic exercise can help restore ovulatory function. In terms of pharmacological treatment, oral contraceptives can be used to regulate hormone levels and menstrual cycles, while insulin-sensitizing agents can improve insulin resistance.

For patients with severe disease, surgical options such as laparoscopic ovarian drilling may be considered. For those who do not respond to conventional treatments, assisted reproductive technologies such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) may be employed.
