How to reduce milk supply after weaning
I stopped breastfeeding for health reasons a while ago, and now I recently want to resume breastfeeding. May I ask, how can I re-establish milk supply after weaning?
Returning to breastfeeding after weaning mainly refers to the process of restarting breastfeeding after stopping it. This process requires careful management to avoid complications such as breast discomfort or mastitis. Below are some suggestions:
1. If the baby has been completely weaned, start with short and infrequent nursing sessions when restarting, gradually increasing the frequency and duration of breastfeeding.
2. Adjust your diet by reducing lactation-promoting foods like chicken soup and fish soup, while increasing consumption of milk-reducing foods such as leeks and hawthorn.
3. Wear appropriate undergarments to alleviate breast tenderness.
4. Wash the breasts with warm water and avoid using irritating soaps or cleansers to reduce the risk of infection.
5. Gently massage the breasts to promote blood circulation and help keep the mammary ducts clear, but avoid excessive massage which may lead to mastitis.
6. Drink water decocted with stir-fried barley malt, three times daily, 50 grams each time.
7. Apply mirabilite externally by placing it in a small cloth bag and applying it to the breasts, avoiding the nipple and areola.
