It is normal not to have a menstrual period for three months after weaning. During breastfeeding, the body produces high levels of prolactin. The secretion of prolactin affects hormonal levels in the body, thereby suppressing ovarian function and often leading to prolonged absence of menstruation. After weaning, prolactin levels decrease and hormonal levels gradually return to normal, but the endocrine system requires time to recover. Generally, it is difficult for menstruation to resume immediately; a delay of several months or even up to six months is considered normal. Once ovarian function fully recovers, menstruation will reappear.
