Bright red and painless bleeding after defecation can have several possible medical causes, including but not limited to the following:
1. Hemorrhoids: One of the most common causes. Internal or external hemorrhoids may rupture, especially during bowel movements, causing bright red blood to drip onto the surface of the stool or toilet paper. Hemorrhoidal bleeding is generally not accompanied by pain.
2. Anal fissure: Although anal fissures are commonly associated with severe pain during defecation, in some cases, especially during the early stages or healing phase, they may also present as painless bright red blood in the stool.
3. Polyps: Polyps within the rectum or colon can sometimes cause bleeding, with bright red blood typically observed, especially when the surface blood vessels of the polyp are injured during defecation.
4. Inflammatory diseases: Conditions such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease may also present with painless rectal bleeding. Although these diseases are often accompanied by symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, in some cases they may manifest solely as painless blood in the stool.
