Is your butt numb and tingling when pressed? It might be lumbar disc herniation!
Recently, I have been experiencing a tingling sensation in my buttocks when sitting or lying down, especially noticeable after maintaining the same posture for a prolonged period. Initially, I thought it was caused by improper sitting posture; however, adjusting my posture did not significantly improve the sensation. I have started to worry whether this could be related to lumbar disc herniation.

Patients are advised to undergo a lumbar CT scan or MRI at a hospital as soon as possible to confirm whether they have lumbar disc herniation and to assess the severity. In the meantime, avoid maintaining the same posture for prolonged periods and perform appropriate stretching exercises for the lower back to reduce strain on the lumbar spine.
If diagnosed with mild lumbar disc herniation, conservative treatment may be attempted along with medications that improve circulation and nourish nerves, such as mecobalamin and vitamin B12, to alleviate numbness and nerve swelling. Physical therapies such as acupuncture, massage, and manual therapy can also help relieve symptoms associated with lumbar disc herniation.
If conservative treatment proves ineffective or symptoms continue to worsen, especially if there is radiating pain or numbness in the lower limbs, or dysfunction of bladder or bowel control, surgical treatment should be considered. In daily life, it is important to maintain good posture while sitting and sleeping, and to strengthen lower back muscle exercises to prevent the occurrence of lumbar spine disorders.
