The left ear is blocked with an excessive amount of thick, sticky earwax. Initially, it was only when lying on the left side at night.
I have noticed that my left ear is blocked by a large amount of earwax, which is thick and sticky in consistency, causing a significant sensation of blockage. Initially, this discomfort only occurred when lying on the left side, but over time, the feeling of ear blockage has become increasingly noticeable even during the daytime, causing inconvenience in daily life. The patient is concerned that excessive earwax may affect hearing and potentially lead to other ear-related problems.

A feeling of blockage in the left ear accompanied by excessive and thick earwax may be caused by cerumen impaction in the external ear canal. Cerumen, a yellowish, sticky secretion produced in the ear canal, helps prevent dust and other small particles from entering the ear. However, when there is excessive cerumen production or impaired drainage, it can accumulate in the external ear canal, causing a sensation of blockage.
It is not recommended to use cotton swabs or other sharp objects to clean the ear canal by yourself, as this may push the earwax deeper into the ear canal and potentially damage the eardrum. In daily life, regular ear canal cleaning, avoiding prolonged use of earphones, and reducing the warm, moist environment within the ear canal can help prevent excessive earwax buildup.
If the problem persists or worsens, prompt medical attention is advised.
