How is surgery for anal fissure performed?
I have recently been diagnosed with an anal fissure, and my doctor has recommended surgical treatment. I feel very curious and nervous about the surgical procedure and would like to understand exactly how the surgery is performed in order to mentally prepare myself.
Anal fissure surgery is an effective treatment for anal fissures, suitable for patients with chronic anal fissures or those who do not respond to medication and conservative treatments. The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia. The surgeon makes a small incision near the anus, locates, and then cuts a small portion of the anal sphincter muscle to relieve muscle tension, reduce anal canal pressure, and promote wound healing.
Prior to surgery, patients need to prepare by cleansing the bowel to reduce the risk of infection after the operation. During the procedure, diseased tissue surrounding the fissure, such as sentinel piles and hypertrophic anal papillae, may be removed along with a portion of the internal sphincter. After surgery, patients should maintain anal hygiene, prevent constipation, follow the doctor's dietary recommendations, and avoid strenuous activities that may interfere with wound healing.
