Painful bowel movements with bleeding: is it hemorrhoids or anal fissure?
Recently, I noticed bleeding during bowel movements, accompanied by significant pain. This condition has persisted for about a week, causing me considerable discomfort and concern.

Bleeding during bowel movements accompanied by pain may be a typical symptom of hemorrhoids or anal fissures.
Hemorrhoids are swollen veins around the rectum and anus, which can cause symptoms such as bleeding during bowel movements and anal pain. An anal fissure refers to a tear in the skin or mucous membrane of the anal canal, usually caused by hard stools or constipation. The pain is often severe, and the bleeding is bright red, typically occurring during or after defecation.
Patients are advised to seek timely medical attention to determine the cause through professional examination. In daily life, increasing dietary fiber intake, maintaining regular bowel movements, and avoiding prolonged straining during defecation are recommended. Sitz baths with warm saline or potassium permanganate solution may also be helpful. Severe hemorrhoids or anal fissures may require surgical treatment.
