Anal fissures are primarily caused by a full-thickness tear in the anal canal skin or the development of an ischemic ulcer. The main contributing factors include the following:

1. Constipation: Long-term constipation or passage of hard stools requiring excessive straining during bowel movements can cause anal injury.

2. Poor bowel habits: Excessive straining during bowel movements, prolonged time spent defecating, overly frequent bowel movements, or extended squatting while attempting to defecate.

3. Anal infection: Perianal infections or inflammation, such as perianal abscesses or hemorrhoids, may also lead to anal fissures.

If anal fissures occur frequently, patients should adjust their dietary habits, increase dietary fiber intake, and maintain soft stools. At the same time, they should improve their bowel habits by defecating at regular intervals and avoiding prolonged squatting or excessive straining during bowel movements.
