How long does it take for swelling to subside after double eyelid surgery?
After undergoing double eyelid surgery, my eyes became swollen, and I would like to know more specifically how long it usually takes for the swelling to subside following this procedure.
The swelling after double eyelid surgery usually subsides within 15 to 30 days.
Double eyelid surgery involves making incisions in the upper eyelid area, removing excess fat and skin tissue, and creating adhesion of the orbicularis oculi muscle to form a double eyelid. During this process, the eyelid area sustains trauma, which causes swelling. Generally, the first week after surgery is the period with the most noticeable swelling, which then gradually subsides.
However, the time required for the swelling to subside varies from person to person. If proper post-operative care is provided and the individual's skin healing ability is good, the swelling usually subsides basically within about 15 days. Conversely, improper care or poor skin healing ability, or even postoperative infection, may prolong the swelling to 30 days or longer.
It is recommended to undergo double eyelid surgery at a reputable hospital to ensure the effectiveness and safety of the procedure. During the entire recovery period, a light diet should be maintained, spicy and irritating foods should be avoided, and bad habits such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and staying up late should also be avoided, as these may worsen the swelling.
