Will my face swell after receiving a hyaluronic acid injection?
I am a 28-year-old woman who noticed mild facial swelling after trying hyaluronic acid injections for cosmetic purposes. I am concerned whether this is a normal reaction and how to manage this situation.
Facial swelling may occur after receiving a hyaluronic acid injection.
Swelling after a hyaluronic acid injection is a normal phenomenon. The hyaluronic acid injection is a cosmetic procedure that delivers skincare products into the skin through injection, helping to hydrate the skin, improve its luster, and reduce wrinkles. However, because the injection process causes certain damage to the epidermis, leading to leakage of tissue fluid and blood, mild edema and swelling typically appear on the face after the injection.
Within the first 24 hours after the injection, you may gently apply a cold compress using an ice pack to the swollen area for 15–20 minutes at a time, with several hours in between applications, to help reduce the swelling. For several days after the injection, you should also avoid using skincare products containing alcohol, fruit acids, or other irritating ingredients to prevent additional stress on the skin.
It is recommended to visit a legitimate hospital and perform the above procedures under the guidance of a qualified physician to ensure safety and effectiveness. However, if the swelling continues to worsen or is accompanied by symptoms such as pain or fever, you should contact your doctor promptly to rule out the possibility of complications such as infection.
