Convulsions are sudden, brief involuntary muscle contractions that can be caused by various factors. Common causes mainly include the following:

1. Fever: High fever, especially in children, can cause febrile seizures, presenting as convulsions.

2. Lifestyle: Excessive alcohol consumption, poor dietary habits, and similar factors may damage the nervous system and subsequently trigger convulsions.

3. Hypoxia: Cerebral hypoxia, such as from suffocation or cardiac arrest, may also cause convulsions.

4. Psychological factors: In rare cases, psychological factors such as anxiety and extreme stress can trigger non-organic convulsions.

5. Genetic factors: Certain genetic disorders, such as familial febrile seizures and Dravet syndrome, can also lead to convulsions.

6. Disease-related factors: Brain disorders such as head trauma, cerebral hemorrhage, and meningitis can provoke convulsions; infections such as acute gastroenteritis and toxic bacillary dysentery, in which bacteria or toxins invade nervous tissue, can also lead to convulsions.

7. Other common causes of convulsions include poisoning, metabolic disorders, neurosis, and congenital brain developmental disorders.

8. Medication-related factors: Sudden withdrawal of sleeping pills, antiepileptic drugs, or similar medications may also induce convulsions.
