Can epilepsy caused by brain injury be cured?
I sustained a severe head injury due to a serious car accident and was diagnosed with brain damage that triggered epilepsy. Since then, I have experienced multiple epileptic seizures, which have significantly affected my daily life and work. My family is very concerned and wants to know whether epilepsy caused by brain injury can be cured.

A comprehensive neurological evaluation is recommended first, including tests such as electroencephalogram (EEG) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), to determine the type of epilepsy and the specific condition of brain injury. Patients can take anti-epileptic medications, such as carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, and sodium valproate, under a doctor's guidance to control seizures. Medication treatment needs to be long-term and regular, with dosages and types adjusted according to each patient's specific condition.
If seizures are difficult to control with medication, surgical removal of the epileptic focus or neurostimulation techniques, such as vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) or deep brain stimulation (DBS), may be considered. In addition, rehabilitation training, including physical therapy, speech therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy, also plays an important role in helping patients recover.
Patients should maintain healthy lifestyle habits, including regular sleep patterns, adequate sleep, avoiding excessive fatigue and emotional fluctuations, to reduce potential seizure triggers.
