How many days does it take for swelling to subside after receiving hyaluronic acid injections?
I am a 25-year-old female who recently received hyaluronic acid filler injections to improve my facial contour. After the procedure, I noticed some swelling and mild pain at the injection sites. I would like to know, under normal circumstances, how many days it usually takes for the swelling to subside after hyaluronic acid injections?
Hyaluronic acid filler injection is a common cosmetic procedure used to improve facial contours, reduce wrinkles, and enhance skin elasticity and luster. After the procedure, the injection site may experience mild swelling, redness, and pain, which are normal reactions and usually resolve on their own within a few days.
In general, swelling following hyaluronic acid injection will gradually subside within 3–5 days and completely resolve around 3–4 weeks. To accelerate the reduction of swelling, cold compresses using ice packs or ice cubes wrapped in a cloth can be applied during the first 24 hours after injection. This helps constrict capillaries and alleviate swelling and discomfort. However, the duration of cold application should not be excessive to avoid skin frostbite.
It is also important to keep the injection site clean and dry after the procedure, avoiding contact with water to prevent infection. Additionally, touching or pressing the treated area with hands should be avoided to prevent interference with healing. During the recovery period, a light diet rich in fruits and vegetables is recommended, while spicy foods, seafood, and other potentially irritating foods should be avoided, as they may exacerbate swelling or trigger allergic reactions.
