Disease description:

I'm going to travel to Yunnan next week. I've heard that there are many types of mushrooms in Yunnan, and people often experience food poisoning as a result. I'd like to ask, what first aid measures should be taken in case of food poisoning?

Dr. Shen Yonghua

Food poisoning is a common acute illness, usually caused by consuming food contaminated with bacteria, viruses, parasites, or their toxins. The following are key first aid measures:

Once someone is found to be experiencing symptoms of food poisoning, the first step is to immediately stop eating any food that may have caused the poisoning and to preserve it for subsequent testing and analysis.

If the patient is conscious, they should immediately stop ingesting any suspected food and drink some clean water to help dilute toxins in the body. If the patient experiences severe vomiting or diarrhea, fluids and electrolytes should be replenished promptly to prevent dehydration.

If the patient's symptoms are severe, such as persistent high fever, severe abdominal pain, or bloody stools, call emergency services immediately and transport the patient to the hospital for professional treatment. While waiting for the ambulance, keep the patient lying flat with the head slightly lowered to help blood flow to the brain, and closely monitor vital signs such as breathing and pulse.

During first aid, it is essential to remain calm and follow the doctor's instructions for treatment.
