Disease description:

Hello doctor, I have been experiencing frequent abdominal pain lately, especially during my menstrual period, and the pain seems to have become more severe. Also, my menstrual flow appears to be heavier than before. A friend of mine mentioned that this might be endometriosis, and I'm quite concerned about it. I would like to ask you, what exactly are the symptoms of endometriosis?

Endometriosis refers to the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. It presents with various symptoms, including pain and increased menstrual bleeding.

Pain is a common symptom, typically表现为渐进性加重的痛经 (progressively worsening dysmenorrhea). It usually starts 1-2 days before menstruation, is most severe on the first day of the period, and gradually subsides, sometimes lasting throughout the menstrual period. The pain typically occurs in the deep lower abdomen and the lumbosacral region, and may radiate to the perineum, anus, or thighs. Pain during sexual intercourse (deep dyspareunia) is also common and tends to be more pronounced just before menstruation.

In addition to heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual irregularities may occur, including prolonged or shortened cycles. Some women may experience spotting before menstruation. If the bladder is affected by endometriosis, symptoms may include cyclical frequency and pain during urination, or blood in the urine. Bowel involvement can lead to cyclical abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, or even rectal bleeding. If endometriosis occurs in a cesarean section scar, painful swelling may develop at the scar site during menstruation, and the mass may gradually increase in size over time.

If the above symptoms occur, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly for diagnosis through gynecological examination, ultrasound, laparoscopy, and other related investigations.
