Symptoms of Poor Liver Health
A male friend of mine in his thirties went to the hospital for a checkup because he felt some discomfort in his liver area, and the doctor told him it was a liver problem. I would like to ask, what are the symptoms of poor liver health?

In general, symptoms of poor liver function include jaundice, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, fatigue, and changes in urine.
1. Jaundice: When liver cells are damaged or there is obstruction in the bile ducts inside or outside the liver, resulting in impaired bilirubin metabolism, elevated bilirubin levels in the blood can cause jaundice.
2. Loss of appetite: Poor liver function may cause abnormalities in bile secretion and excretion, affecting food digestion, especially a reduced ability to digest fatty foods, leading to loss of appetite.
3. Abdominal distension: Liver problems may lead to insufficient secretion of digestive enzymes, affecting digestion and absorption of food, which can cause abdominal distension, particularly more noticeable after eating.
4. Fatigue: When liver function is impaired, functions such as glycogen synthesis and breakdown, and metabolism of fats and proteins may be affected, leading to insufficient energy supply to the body and resulting in feelings of weakness and fatigue.
5. Changes in urine: Poor liver function may also alter the odor of urine, sometimes causing an unusual smell. This is due to the increased excretion of metabolic byproducts through urine, as the liver is unable to detoxify and excrete them normally.
If symptoms persist or worsen, prompt medical attention should be sought for diagnosis and treatment.
