Can I eat crayfish during pregnancy?
I am a 23-year-old pregnant woman preparing for childbirth at the hospital. Recently, I have been craving crawfish and am wondering whether it might affect my health. Could you please advise if I can eat it?

In general, it is safe for pregnant women to eat crawfish, but it should not be consumed in large quantities.
Crawfish is rich in high-quality protein and trace elements such as zinc and selenium. During pregnancy, these nutrients help enhance immunity and promote overall health. Therefore, for pregnant women without a clear history of allergies or food intolerance, eating crawfish under a doctor's guidance is usually safe. However, because crawfish may contain small amounts of mercury, it is advisable to limit intake to reduce potential risks to the fetal nervous system.
When consuming crawfish, it is recommended to ensure they are sourced from reliable, pollution-free environments and are fresh to avoid heavy metals or harmful substances. Additionally, crawfish must be thoroughly cooked to kill any potential parasites and bacteria, preventing infections. If a woman is allergic to crawfish, it is not recommended to consume it, to avoid adverse reactions such as skin itching and swelling.
During pregnancy, it is recommended to maintain a balanced diet, increase intake of vegetables and fruits rich in vitamins, develop healthy lifestyle habits, and ensure adequate sleep.
