Tooth extraction is usually accompanied by a certain degree of pain; however, the level of pain varies among individuals and can be relieved. The pain during tooth extraction mainly arises from the injection of anesthesia, the pulling sensation during tooth removal, and the wound healing phase afterward.

Prior to the extraction, the dentist will administer local anesthesia to reduce pain during the procedure. Although there may be a slight pricking sensation during the injection, once the anesthesia takes effect, most of the pain during the extraction can be effectively alleviated. However, due to individual differences, some patients may experience mild pain during the extraction because of varying sensitivity to anesthetic agents. Additionally, after the extraction, as the anesthetic effect fades, patients may feel slight pain or discomfort at the wound site, which is a normal physiological response.

To reduce pain associated with tooth extraction, patients can communicate fully with the dentist prior to the procedure to understand the process and potential discomfort, and thus be mentally prepared. After the extraction, patients should strictly follow medical advice, taking prescribed anti-inflammatory medications and painkillers on schedule to promote wound healing and alleviate pain. Within 24 hours after the extraction, patients should avoid brushing teeth, rinsing the mouth, or repeatedly sucking at the wound to minimize irritation. It is also important to maintain good oral hygiene, attend regular follow-up appointments to monitor wound healing, and promptly address any abnormal conditions.
