Tattoos are generally not recommended for patients with diabetes.

Due to metabolic disturbances, microcirculatory impairment, reduced local defense functions, and potential immune system dysfunction, diabetic patients may experience various risks during and after the tattooing process. Tattooing causes damage to the skin, and because diabetic patients have weaker skin self-healing capabilities, wounds may heal slowly or incompletely, thereby increasing the risk of infection. Additionally, the tattooing process may trigger a stress response, leading to elevated blood glucose levels, further worsening hyperglycemia. Over time, this may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.

If there is a pressing need for a tattoo, it is essential to communicate thoroughly with a physician beforehand to assess whether one's health condition is suitable for undergoing tattooing. With the physician's approval, choose a reputable tattoo studio to ensure hygienic conditions and safe tattooing equipment. After getting a tattoo, special attention should be given to keeping the tattooed area clean and dry, and closely monitoring for any adverse reactions such as redness, swelling, or itching. If any abnormalities occur, prompt medical attention should be sought.
