Can exercise improve sexual function?
I am a middle-aged person. Recently, I have been feeling that my sexual function is continuously declining. I heard that exercise can help improve sexual function, but I am not sure if it is effective. Can exercise really improve sexual function?

Exercise can improve sexual function to some extent, but overexercising should be avoided.
Adequate physical activity promotes overall blood circulation, increases blood flow and strengthens local muscles, which is beneficial for improving sexual function. Exercises targeting the waist, abdomen, pelvic floor muscles, and legs—such as squats, push-ups, and sit-ups—can enhance blood circulation in the perineal area and thus help improve sexual performance. Furthermore, exercise can boost testosterone levels in the body, which is beneficial for male sexual function. At the same time, physical activity helps alleviate stress, anxiety, and depression—negative emotions that are significant contributors to sexual dysfunction. Through the release of endorphins during exercise, mood and self-confidence can be enhanced, thereby positively influencing sexual life.
Excessive exercise may produce adverse effects. High-intensity or prolonged physical activity may increase physical fatigue and actually reduce libido. Therefore, it is recommended to engage in moderate aerobic exercises such as brisk walking, swimming, or cycling.
