Dr. Liu Feng

Blood glucose level of 3.2 mmol/L (millimoles per liter) falls within the hypoglycemic range, below the lower limit of normal fasting blood glucose levels, and thus is considered abnormal.

For healthy adults, the normal fasting blood glucose range should be between 3.9 and 6.1 mmol/L. Therefore, a blood glucose level of 3.2 mmol/L is considered low, but generally does not meet the criteria for hypoglycemia, as the diagnostic threshold for hypoglycemia is a blood glucose level less than or equal to 2.8 mmol/L. However, this level may still cause some symptoms of hypoglycemia, so it is recommended to immediately consume carbohydrate-containing foods or drinks, such as glucose tablets, fruit juice, or sugary beverages, to rapidly raise blood glucose levels to a safe range.

For individuals with diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance, this blood glucose level may already meet the criteria for hypoglycemia. Low blood sugar can cause symptoms such as dizziness, sweating, palpitations, and tremors, and in severe cases, may lead to altered mental status or coma, which is defined as hypoglycemia. In such cases, it is important to promptly investigate potential causes of hypoglycemia, including but not limited to excessive insulin or hypoglycemic medication, inadequate food intake, excessive exercise, or abnormal liver or kidney function.

Note: If you experience any discomfort, seek medical attention promptly.
