Palpitations, clinically referred to as increased cardiac pulsation or enhanced heartbeat sensation, may be caused by various factors.

1. Physiological causes: In certain situations, such as nervousness, anxiety, excessive stress, or sudden stimulation, the sympathetic nervous system may become overly activated, leading to an increased heart rate and a noticeable pulsation. These episodes are usually temporary and the heartbeat typically returns to normal once the emotional state improves.

3. Anemia: A reduced number of red blood cells causes the heart to work harder to meet the body's oxygen demands, which may result in a noticeable cardiac pulsation.

4. Heart diseases: Conditions such as arrhythmia and ventricular tachycardia can affect normal cardiac function, leading to symptoms like palpitations and a sensation of heart fluttering.

5. Other factors: Hyperthyroidism may also cause a strong heartbeat sensation, as this condition increases cardiac activity and output.

6. Heart valve diseases: Conditions such as mitral valve prolapse or aortic stenosis, in which valve function is impaired, can increase the heart's workload and enhance the sensation of cardiac pulsation.

If the sensation of cardiac pulsation persists or is accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, or other symptoms, it is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and appropriate diagnostic tests.
