Disease description:

I had a rhinoplasty with implants done a year ago, and recently I've been feeling increasingly aware of the foreign body sensation from the implant. I've decided to have it removed. I'd like to ask the doctor, after removing the implant, will my nose appear more collapsed than it was before the surgery?

After removal of a nasal implant, there is a possibility that the nose may experience some degree of collapse.

During rhinoplasty, the implant provides additional support to the nose. Once removed, this support is lost and the nose may return to its pre-surgical shape or appear slightly lower. Additionally, if the implant has been in place for a prolonged period, it may have exerted pressure on the nasal cartilage. After removal, the cartilage requires time to recover, during which the nose may appear more collapsed. However, this collapse generally does not exceed the severity of the original condition prior to surgery and will typically improve gradually over time.

After implant removal, proper nasal care and recovery are important. Avoid trauma to the nose and maintain healthy lifestyle habits to promote natural healing of nasal tissues. Finally, if the nasal appearance is not as desired after implant removal, secondary cosmetic procedures such as autologous cartilage grafting may be considered to achieve the desired nasal shape. However, it is important to carefully select a hospital and surgeon, fully understand the surgical risks and postoperative recovery process, and be psychologically prepared.
