Disease description:

I am 29 years old and currently breastfeeding, but recently I have been very bothered by excess body hair, especially under my arms and on my legs. I have heard that laser hair removal can permanently solve this problem, but I am concerned whether it may affect my baby's health. I would like to know if laser hair removal is safe during breastfeeding.

Laser hair removal is not recommended during lactation. If hair removal is needed, it is advised to undergo the procedure after the lactation period.

Laser hair removal works by using laser light of specific wavelengths to target hair follicles, damaging their structure to achieve hair removal. This process primarily affects the hair follicles and does not directly impact the mammary glands or breast milk. However, as laser hair removal may cause discomfort or pain, anesthetic drugs might be required. These anesthetics could potentially be transmitted to the infant through breast milk, possibly affecting the infant's health. Therefore, laser hair removal is not recommended during breastfeeding.

If hair removal is desired, it is suggested to consider laser hair removal after the lactation period. If treatment during lactation is truly desired, consultation with a professional physician is recommended to ensure the safety and appropriateness of the procedure.
