In general, laser hair removal can achieve permanent hair removal in most cases. Laser hair removal works based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. By appropriately adjusting the laser wavelength, energy, and pulse width, the laser can penetrate the epidermis to reach the hair follicles at the root of the hair. The melanin in the hair follicles absorbs the laser energy and converts it into heat energy, which destroys the follicular tissue and prevents hair regrowth.

As the hair growth cycle is divided into anagen (growth phase), catagen (transitional phase), and telogen (resting phase), and laser treatment is only effective on hair follicles in the anagen phase, multiple treatments are necessary to gradually destroy all the follicles in the growth phase and achieve permanent hair removal. However, individual differences may affect the effectiveness. Some people's hair follicles respond well to laser treatment, resulting in longer-lasting hair removal effects, while others may have more resistant follicles or factors such as hormonal imbalances that increase the likelihood of hair regrowth.

Although laser hair removal is a relatively safe cosmetic procedure, some side effects may occur in rare cases, such as skin redness, pigmentation, and folliculitis. These side effects are mostly temporary and occur at a low rate. To minimize the risk of side effects, it is important to choose a reputable medical facility and an experienced physician for treatment, and to follow the physician's instructions for post-treatment care carefully.
